Song 5: Words by Bee Gees/Boyzone

Words (lyrics)

Smile, an everlasting smile
A smile can bring you near to me
Don't ever let me find you gone
Cause that would bring a tear to me
This world has lost it's glory
Lets start a brand new story
Now my love
You think that I don't even mean
A single word I say...
It's only words
And words are all I have
To take your heart away

Talk, in everlasting words
And dedicate them all, to me
And I will give you all my life
I'm here if you should call to me
You think that I don't even mean
a single word I say...

This world has lost it's glory
Let's start a brand new story
Now, my love
You think that I don't even mean
a single word I say...

After a month long vacation in my home country with unlimited doses of fun, laughter, food and memories, it was time to return back to the pavilion. Post these 30 days of joy and fun, our jet-lagged eyes and tired mind will definitely need some more time to get back into action. Though my association with words continued during the break too, I looked at them with pleasure rather than responsibility. Framing posts and writing articles was more of fun and less of duty during these long days of vacation. Now, while returning back to the same, old story with pre-defined plot and pre-determined characters, I hunted for an appropriate song that could express my state of mind.

While continuing my musical express with impacting lyrics, I looked around for the perfect song that can describe my re-association with words. As work demands attention and job demands words, this exciting song by the title ‘Words’ seemed totally perfect in every way. An original song by group Bee Gees that was re-recorded by the famous band Boyzone, ‘It’s only words’ gained instant popularity among the audience back then. A romantic number that expresses the feelings of the singer towards his love of life, this song talks about the power of words. As words are the only means to communicate his love, the writer depicts the strength in their tale. By describing the truth in words, the writer hopes to establish a strong bond.

Now, after reading the flow of these lyrics, you must be wondering about their inclusion in the musical express. How can a romantic number fit into this express that celebrates the power of words? Though the original purpose of the song revolves around love and its associated feelings, I admire this song for its appreciation of ‘words’. As a writer, while dealing with these friends day in and day out, I have realized their value in my life. Though this song takes a love-filled turn, I enjoy interpreting it in my way. For a song that celebrates the power in words, it describes the strength in their course.

Words are the valuable pieces of our story that depict honesty and truthfulness, bringing the best in our lives. They stand as mirrors showing us true image in every way. Though we may not realize it, words leave an irreplaceable mark in the journey of our life. Actions are assumed to be stronger than words, but in reality what we speak and how we present our stand is much more impacting than any other means of expression.

Words can leave a permanent effect, making it essential to weigh them in a correct manner. Words designed with an aim to hurt, insult, criticize or taunt can never yield any positive effect. It is important to choose our words with care and utilize them for good outcome rather than any inferior motive. Many a times, we allow our mood and mind to take charge, resulting in unacceptable flow of words. Though we may not mean it, yet our anger may fill our vocabulary with certain words only to be regretted later. This makes it essential to focus on our choice of words and spread cheer all around. As words are the central components of any communication, it is important to use them wisely.

After entering into the field of writing, I realized the significance of rich literature. Good selection of words and flawless flow of the chain is all it takes to grab the attention of a reader. This song will always stay close to my heart for celebrating the love of words. The phrase ‘And words are all I have to take your heart away’ seems to convey my message in a perfect manner as words are indeed all I have to take my profession ahead.

With this, let me write a quick note on why I love words:

1.       They speak your heart with true image of what’s in store.

2.       Words express, convey, speak and present all the ideas seeded deep within our minds.

3.       Words leave a long-lasting impression, making a powerful impact.

4.       Words generate feelings of happiness and love, conveying the thoughts in our mind.

5.       Core of communication, words are all we have to create space in someone’s life.

While I bid good-bye to an unwanted jet-lag, I hope to reconnect with my friends of words. Until I come back with my next post in the series, enjoy the magic of these words!

Song 4: I want to live like animals – Animal song (Savage Garden)

When superstars and cannonballs are running through your head
A television freak show cops and robbers everywhere
Subway makes me nervous, people pushing me too far
I've got to break away
So take my hand now

'Cause I want to live like animals
Careless and free like animals
I want to live
I want to run through the jungle
The wind in my hair and the sand at my feet

I've been having difficulties keeping to myself
Feelings and emotions better left up on the shelf
Animals and children tell the truth, they never lie
Which one is more human
There's a thought, now you decide

Compassion in the jungle
Compassion in your hands, yeah
Would you like to make a run for it
Would you like to take my hand, yeah

Sometimes this life can get you down
It's so confusing
There's so many rules to follow
And I feel it
'Cause I just run away in my mind

Superstars and cannonballs running through your head
Television freak show cops and robbers everywhere
Animals and children tell the truth, they never lie
Which one is more human
There's a thought, now you decide

Compassion in the jungle
Compassion in your hands, yeah
Would you like to make a run for it
Would you like to take my hand, yeah

Once again, the credit for introducing me to this song goes to my sister who truly has a fantastic taste towards music. More than the rhythm, I admire the lyrical power of this song created by one of the most talented musicians of the yesteryears. Bringing amazing music for their listeners with touch of meaningful lyrics, Australian pop duo Savage Garden have been extremely popular for several years now. One such masterpiece by the name ‘I want to live like animals or the Animal song’ has gained an entry into my musical express due to its carefree touch. In the maddening rush of life with its demands, chaos, expectations and responsibilities, this song reaches the chords of the heart in a perfect way.

Though this song was set in the good, old times where life was still not so chaotic, Savage Garden seemed to be ahead of their time. While expressing the desire to set themselves free, these lyrics will truly relate to each one of us. A carefree song with extremely carefree style, ‘I want to live like animal’ comes across as the theme of our heart. Many a times, when life imposes tons of troubles, besides taking us through the routine every single day, we reach a threshold limit for any further action. Lyrics of this song express the desire of the singer duo, as they wish to enter into a carefree zone like animals. Without any stress of greeting people, meeting deadlines, fulfilling responsibilities and performing tasks, as the writer hopes to walk away from everything, it leaves a wonderful note for all.

We all experience stressful moments along our course, while juggling wide array of duties. Besides work, elements such as people, relationships, moral duties and ethics demand our attention. Carefree life like animal without any image trouble seems to be the perfect answer for eternal happiness. As humans, we are forced to live under rules of humanity. Call it society pressures or humanly troubles, we are expected to follow certain guidelines for being human.

While caught within this game of showing our best behavior, we may tend to focus over our image in the society. Though it is essential to exhibit humanity in the best form, it is also important to do what our heart wants. In an attempt to polish our image in the society, we may stop living our life to the fullest. By staying within the limits of good behavior, ethical values, acceptable manners and pure nature, we can continue our life in an enjoyable manner.

How does one balance this thin line between image and ethics is a tough task, as it summarizes our entire life in a short way.

By hoping to live like an animal, writer of this song wants to get away from all the challenges and difficulties. The thought of running carefree into a jungle with wind in the hair and sand at the feet seems to be perfect in every way. This central thought was the highlight of my affection, as I was attracted towards the magic of its words. Just imagine yourself into the plot of this song, enjoying every single desire as expressed by the writer, and I am sure you will be tempted to break away from the routine.

Though it sounds exciting, you must be wondering about the practicality quotient of such a thought.

Is it possible to leave away everything and run around like an animal?

If given a choice, would you like to throw away the luxuries of a stable life?

Would you be happy to live life by your own rules, without worrying about your ‘image’ in the society?

Before I lose your attention over these thought provoking questions, let me move towards the last segment of my post.

I will list down my reasons to live like an animal, while you can think about yours too!

I want to live like animals because:

·         carefree approach can bring out the best in me as a writer, dreamer, admirer and wanderer.

·         it will dissolve boundaries and limitations from my ‘so-called’ ideal life and allow me to explore newer things.

·         it will erase away the troubles of maintaining an image, while letting me embrace every single aspect with love.

·         it will shift the focus over living my life to the fullest, rather than living it as per worldly expectations.

·         it will dissolve any train of thoughts in my mind that revolve around unnecessary expectations of the society.

Truly one of the most interesting lyrics I have come across, this song qualifies to be my favorite song in several ways. For a unique meaning with novel touch, ‘Animal song’ is my answer to go away from stress and embrace happiness!

Song 3: Love you Zindagi

Continuing my lyrical series ahead, it is time for the next magical number. After two English songs, I will explore our dear Bollywood for an inspirational note. Stuck in my ears with its powerful lyrics and soothing music is a latest song from the movie ‘Dear Zindagi’. Referring to life (Zindagi) as a friend and companion, this unconventional Bollywood movie depicted the amazing feeling of being alive.

Though the depiction failed in box office due to lack of typical Bollywood spices, it left behind a wonderful message for all. Forgetting the past, living in the present and staying away from the future thoughts or worries was the bottom-line of this movie that showed the power of embracing life.

This movie definitely inspired the blogger in me delivering new ideas to the flow of my thoughts. While the writer in me touches each of these factors through the means of words, I was excited to see it over screen. Back to the lyrical journey, the title track of this movie by the name ‘Love you Zindagi’ is my latest fascination, playing in loop. A dialogue between self and life, the song oozes out inspiration in every single word. While the singer treats her life as a close friend, she talks about their sweet-sour relationship. With its rhythmic flow and meaningful lyrics, this piece has truly won my heart in every way.

It talks about the need to embrace life in a wonderful way, keeping away worries and troubles at bay. It prompts each one to accept what they love, while rejecting what they hate. Living life by our choice is the primary core of enjoying it to the fullest. Our decisions and choices shape the form of our life, giving us direction for happiness and joy. Choosing happiness over sorrow and hope over despair is the act that can lead to eternal peace for a lifetime. What we do for a living or how we spend the course of our life is our primary task in hand. Depending on others for their evaluation, appreciation, judgments and decisions can lead to hollowness in our path ahead.

This song describes unique love-hate relationship between us and life. At times, we are excited and enthusiastic about several events in our life followed by low lying dull moments without any charm. From happiness to sorrow, enthusiasm to disinterest, hope to despair and success to failure, we find ourselves swinging and dancing to the tunes of life. After all, life does not believe in certainty. Uncertain situations and circumstances govern our way, forcing us to adopt to changes in a positive way.

Writers of this song have truly created a masterpiece, as they communicate with life in a direct manner. Expressing our love and affection towards life, at the same time sharing good and not so good thoughts about it can take us closer to its core.

Inspired by this interesting idea of talking to life, I am tempted to write a short note too! Let me try my hands at chalking down the sweet and sour flavors of this ‘friend’ who means the world to each one of us.

Dear Zindagi,

Your sweetness reflects in a variety of ways. Though listing down this comprehensive note may not cover every single aspect, it is my little attempt to celebrate your existence:

1.       It feels amazing when you shower us with opportunities and support us to fulfill all our dreams.

2.       Your surprises bring out the best moments in our journey, while you choose to bless us with unexpected moments of achievement.

3.       You allow us to write our own unique story with our plot, characters, theme and genre. This flexibility is the reason for our happiness as we can fill your clean slate with our wonderful words.

Your sourness does bother us to a certain extent, but after all it is a part of the parcel!

1.       Your uncertain timing tends to bother our plans, as you enjoy throwing unexpected situations over our heads

2.       Your fast pace is another aspect that confuses us. Before we realize a new year has started, it is time to gear up for the next year celebration

3.       Your mixed signals can tend to be confusing. At times, you fill us with enthusiastic approach to perform a task, but soon you may take it away in the blink of a moment.

With this my lyrical journey halts at the next stop. See you next week with yet another song with its magical words.

Lyrics:

Jo dil se lage
Usse keh do hi, hi, hi, hi
Jo dil na lage
Usse keh do bye, bye, bye, bye
Aane do, aane do
Dil mein aa jaane do
Kehdo muskurahat ko
Hi, hi, hi, hi
Jaane do, jaane do
Dil se chale jaane do
Keh do ghabrahat ko
Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye-bye
Love you zindagi, Love you zindagi
Love you zindagi, Love me zindagi
Kabhi hath pakad ke tu mera
Chal de, chal de
Kabhi hath chuda ke main tera
Chal doon, chal doon
Main thodi si moody hoon
Tu thodi si tedhi hai
Kya khoob ye jodi hai
Teri meri..
Aane do aane do
Dil mein aa jaane do
Keh do muskurahat ko
Hi, hi, hi, hi
Jaane do, jaane do
Dil se chale jaane do
Kehdo ghabrahat ko
Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye-bye
Love you zindagi, Love you zindagi
Love you zindagi, Love me zindagi

Song 2: Summer of ‘69: Those were the best days of my life

After ticking off first song from my list, it is time to explore the next contender in the race. Though I was never a keen fan of western music, I was introduced to the world of English songs by my enthusiastic sister. A fan of all things musical, her interest pulled me towards some of the most famous songs from the western world. Slowly and steadily as my ears moved towards the sound of its beats, I realized a new found love.

One of the most famous songs from singer Bryan Adams – ‘Summer of ‘69’ formed a great mark in my heart. Though it has great music to its credit, I was amazed by its simple, yet meaningful lyrics. Swinging over nostalgic memories, as Bryan recollects summer of his young days, the song has wonderful words for the audience.

This song celebrates the power of nostalgia as each one of us have some valuable memories linked to various phases of our life. Though routine life moves along, we all have some memorable days with its sweet essence that lingers forever. Such is the power of memories that they can cheer us on our ‘not so happy’ days. While we experience sorrow or boredom, these colorful memories can add their much needed shade. Surprisingly, some of the darkest moments transform into happier times as we think about the wonderful past.

As the singer remembers their carefree days with love for his musical band, the song brings life to every single word. Though a simple piece with usual moments in a person’s life, the song prompts us to ride over nostalgia. As it centers on youth and friends, it has a wonderful feel. Each one of us have memorable moments with our friends as we move along a carefree zone of our life.

Best days of our life bring us back to good, old times. Significant events, important occasions, major developments and fun-filled days gain an entry into our nostalgic memories as we remember them forever for the rest of our lives. Besides remembering interesting memories, this song talks about changing shades of life. While moving along our routine journey, we may not reflect over past times. Yet, nostalgia has the ability to remind us about amazing days from yesteryears.

Though we enjoy our present, we are forced to encounter unexpected situations along the way. This gives way to the concept of valuable memories as we choose to remember the good rather than cry over the bad. Certain moments in our life click as the perfect opportunities for unlimited stock of happiness. Though they may last for a short while, they register themselves forever. Their remembrance drags us back to the good times, hoping for a repeat all over again.

After appreciating the flow of its lyrics, let me introduce a customized touch. While I will frame down some of my best days so far, I would urge you to do the same. Pen down your own list, as you scroll through mine. I am sure these phases may sync with those on your list, as we all move over the same route one way or the other.

Those were the best days of my life….

·         School days – carefree, educative, amazing, sweet-sour, boring, fun-filled, interesting and everything that makes us what we are today. School days are undoubtedly the best days one can ever have. My love for words took me to an interesting thought. I will make a sincere attempt to reproduce it for you. ‘When we were little kids, we stared at school gate; waiting to walk out of it into a free world. Only to realize that after numerous long years, we stare at it once again, hoping to be called back within its protective arms.’

·         Days spent with family after staying away for long- reunions, endless talks, unlimited smiles and loads of fun

·         Days with friends – talks, fights, philosophical discussion, contemplation and retrospection, fun, mischief.

·         Lonely days spent with inner self –reflective, analytical, progressive, new thoughts and newer plans

·         Vacation from work – peaceful, relaxing, stress-free, unlimited happiness, disconnection from the world.

Qualifying as some of the best days of my life, each of these categories represent my version of the song. Reflecting over such good times can brighten our face with smiles. Interpreting lyrics of songs in your own style is truly an interesting and unique way to enjoy them.

P.S: I want to thank all you readers for your feedback last week. One feedback note gave me the idea to include lyrics of song as part of the post. Hope you enjoy it, as you list down your best days too!

Summer of '69

I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five-and-dime
Played it 'til my fingers bled
Was the summer of '69

Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard.
Jimmy quit, Jody got married
I should've known we'd never get far

Oh, when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Yeah, I'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life

Ain't no use in complainin'
When you've got a job to do
Spent my evenings down at the drive-in
And that's when I met you, yeah

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that you'd wait forever
Oh, and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Oh, yeah.
Back in the summer of '69, oh.

Man we were killin' time
We were young and restless
We needed to unwind
I guess nothin' can last forever, forever, no! yeah!

And now the times are changin'
Look at everything that's come and gone
Sometimes when I play that old six-string
I think about you, wonder what went wrong

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that it'd last forever
Oh, and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Oh, yeah.
Back in the summer of '69, oh.
It was the summer of '69, oh, yeah.
Me and my baby in '69, oh.
It was the summer, the summer, the summer of '69, yeah.
