While walking inside the proverbial park...7


    Taking the stroll ahead, as the blogger in me marches towards few more halts, the next thought is different, interesting, mysterious yet applicable to each one of us. While this journey of proverbs has been exciting in every way, exploring their hidden meaning and understanding their impact in our lives has been truly wonderful. Though these proverbs have been a part of our life as valuable phrases since childhood, throwing light over them through the medium of this proverbial park has proved to be interesting, motivating and inspiring at the same time.

Halt 7:  When in Rome, do as the Romans do

     While the country ‘Rome’ and its folks ‘Romans’ are just representative terms for the proverb, idea behind this thought prompts us to blend along with the local ambiance and experience what it offers. Being one with the feel of a place and adapting to its existing conditions, surroundings and situations prepare us for the course ahead. By accepting the local culture of a region, we can invite peace, satisfaction, friendship and happiness.

    Disrespect towards a native practice or opposition towards its followers give way to misunderstandings and troubles. While one may not conform to every belief of the land or agree with every single aspect of a place, blending along with the atmosphere around opens the path for more progress and development. Interest towards the local practices, lifestyle, food, culture, beliefs and behavior offer insights of the place. Paving way for more connections, relations, bonding and memories, acceptance of local culture certainly plays an important role. By opening our arms towards the local experience, we invite new variations into our routine. Accepting the good offerings of a land and combining it with that of our own enable us to learn, develop, grow and prosper.

    A significant factor that confers its prominent effect is willingness to adapt and adopt. Adapting ourselves to situation around and adopting their true form is the key to long-lasting happiness. While we may not completely adhere to the beliefs of the local land, eagerness to experience and desire to comprehend add fodder to our knowledge base. As we toil to visualize their routine course and wonder about their usual conduct, we come closer to the magic of local air. By opening our eyes to the variations around us, we are able to sow seeds of progress, growth, development and improvement.

    Besides adopting local culture, the thought prompts us to accept prevailing situations and surrounding circumstances. Living in the present, while adapting to changing scenario depicts the power of time. Moving along with passing time and marching ahead with strength of confidence bring happiness and joy into our lives. Staying firm over our own conduct without adjusting with the place around contributes to sadness, sorrow, disappointment and failure.

With these valuable aspects, let us march towards the concluding remarks over this thought.

·         Accepting, adapting, adopting and experimenting are some of the key verbs to be followed, while experiencing the ambiance of local land and rejoicing under its feel.

·         Ability to adjust and accept paves way for flexibility in life; as we demonstrate an interest towards the new surroundings, we invite development and march towards progress.

·         Willingness to be one with the ambiance showers us with wide range of benefits, besides adding to our knowledge base, it expands our horizon and shows us endless possibilities in the world.

·          By accepting local culture, prevailing situations, surrounding conditions and present circumstances, we can move along with time and invite positivity and progress.


   With seven inspirational halts, as we move towards the last one, this pull of proverbs has certainly worked wonders. Though these proverbs have entered through the mode of books and curriculum, experiencing their power once again through series of these blogs has been truly exciting in every way.


As a ‘verb’ that ‘prompts’ or a ‘proactive’ thought that ‘works’, ‘proverbs’ shall certainly remain the talk of town!
